Gabriel Jesus has successfully undergone a surgery on his knee. The Brazilian striker picked up the injury while playing for Brazil at the World Cup.

The 25-year-old his expected to miss out on three months of action with the injury more serious than initially thought. Jesus absence will be a major blow for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta as the Brazilian has been crucial to the clubs flying form in the league.

“Gabby will now begin his rehabilitation programme”, Arsenal said.

“Everyone at the club is supporting Gabby and will be working hard to get him back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

Brazil’s coach Tite rubbished claims that Jesus was carrying a knee injury prior to joining the camp and he knew there was a risk in fielding Jesus.

“I don’t like hearing lies, said with bad intent,” he said. “We never put a player at risk. The liars, the haters, can go and do something else and stop giving fake news.”

“Arsenal have a great medical department, we have a great medical department and we are responsible and ethical. I didn’t want this to happen and we’re very sorry for him.”

Arsenal will have to contemplate on whether to sign a striker in January to fill the void left by Jesus, the Gunners will be aiming to put up a title challenge with Manchester City once the league resumes.
