Arsenal remain in discussions with William Saliba over a brand-new contract. The Frenchman will have a one year remaining on his deal come the summer and the gunners are desperate to keep him after his impressive performances in the league.
Saliba joined Arsenal from Saint-Etienne in 2019 for a fee of around £27million, but was immediately loaned back to the Ligue 1 side for the remainder of the season. He then joined up with Arsenal last summer but was loaned out again, this time to Marseille, where he has impressed with his performances.
Football.London. understands that Arsenal are now in talks with Saliba over a new contract, which would extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium beyond 2024 when his current deal expires. The Gunners are confident that they can reach an agreement with Saliba and keep him at the club for the long term.
Saliba is highly rated by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and is seen as a key part of the club’s future plans. He is expected to be given more opportunities next season as he has this season already proved that he is one of the best centre backs in the Premier League.
The Gunners are keen to tie down their young stars on long-term deals and have already done so with Gabriel Martinelli pending announcement this season. They will now be hoping that they can do likewise with Saliba in order to ensure that he remains an important part of their squad for years to come.
