Mikel Arteta has revealed what surprised him about Jorginho in their 4-2 win over Aston Villa. The Italian midfielder scored a stunning goal from deep albeit with help from Emi Martinez head which slotted it in to seal the win for Arsenal, and Arteta was full of praise for his performance.

He said as per Football.London: “I certainly didn’t see that quality of him (Jorginho) – scoring from deep. The biggest quality he has is that he makes other people look better, better than what you actually are. He’s made a huge impact already on the boys and the staff and hopefully our fans. I hope people can see that because I thought he was tremendous today.”

The win ended Arsenal’s four-game winless run, with Jorginho’s goal coming in injury time plus Gabriel Martinelli’s final goal to seal the victory for the Gunners. His strike came after Villa had equalised twice, with goals from Ollie Watkins and Coutinho cancelling out Bukayo Saka’s and Zinchenko’s goal.

Jorginho’s goal was a moment of magic, as he fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner from outside the box to give Arsenal a 3-2 lead late on in the game which later ended at 4-2. It was a moment of brilliance which silenced some of his doubters and showed why Arteta had faith in him to make an impact at Arsenal this season.

It remains to be seen if Jorginho can continue this form throughout the season, but if Saturday’s performance is anything to go by then it looks like he could be one of Arsenal’s key players this season. With Arteta now having more options in midfield thanks to Jorginho’s performance on Saturday, it looks like Arsenal could be set for an exciting end to the season under Mikel Arteta.
