Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed the return date for injured midfielder Thomas Partey after the Ghanaian missed the Gunners’ trip to Aston Villa. Speaking to BT sport pre-game, Arteta said on Partey: “He’s (Thomas) not fit. He didn’t even train with us yesterday. He wasn’t feeling good enough to do that so he probably need another week.”

The 29-year-old has been a key player for Arsenal since his arrival from Atletico Madrid last summer, but has been hampered by injuries this season. Partey missed the midweek 3-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium after picking up a muscular injury and was absent again for game against Aston Villa.

Despite Partey’s absence, Arteta’s team ended their Premier League woes with a 4-2 win over Aston Villa The victory was Arsenal’s first in four games and lifted them up to first on the table.

Partey is expected to be back in action soon and will be a welcome addition for Arsenal as they look to secure European football next season. The Gunners have an important run of fixtures coming up, including matches against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, and will need all their players fit and firing if they are to achieve their goals this season.

Arteta will be hoping that Partey can make a swift return from injury and help his side push on towards the end of the campaign as they look to win the Premier League trophy.
