Martin Odegaard has made a statement after Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday, urging the team to stay calm and take it game by game.

The Gunners had been top of the Premier League since August, but were knocked off their perch by Manchester City in a 3-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

Odegaard, who joined Arsenal from Real Madrid some time back, said that the team must stay calm and keep working hard. He also noted that the next game comes around quickly and urged the team to change their mindset and look for the next win.

“We know there’s a long way to go, we’ve said it after every game we’ve won,” Odegaard told Arsenal Media. “We have to stay calm, keep working hard and take it game by game. It’s the same now when you lose, we need to just come back on Saturday and get a win again, that’s all that matters.”

The Norwegian midfielder also highlighted how quickly they can turn things around with another match coming up soon. “The good thing is that the next one comes around very quickly,” he said. “Just change the chip, look for the next one and come back.”

Odegaard’s words of encouragement come at an important time for Arsenal as they look to bounce back from their third league defeat so far this season. The Gunners have been in impressive form this whole season but will need to remain focused if they are to maintain their position in the top two of the Premier League table.

Odegaard has been an important part of Arteta’s side since his arrival at Emirates Stadium and his words will no doubt be taken on board by his teammates as they prepare for Saturday’s match against Aston Villa.

It remains to be seen whether or not Arsenal can respond positively following Wednesday night’s disappointment but Odegaard’s words suggest that he is confident in his side’s ability to do so. With a quick turnaround between games, it is now up to Arteta and his players to prove him right with a positive result against Aston Villa this weekend.
