Tomiyasu reveals his Arsenal teammate that he ‘fears’
Arsenal right back Takehiro Tomiyasu has opened up about his teammate that he would likely fear too much if he was an opponent.
Takehiro Tomiyasu is a Japanese professional footballer who currently plays for Arsenal in the Premier League. The 24-year-old defender has quickly established himself as one of the most promising young fullbacks in Europe, with his impressive performances.
Tomiyasu has been particularly impressed by one of his Arsenal teammates, Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian forward joined the Gunners from Ituano in 2019 and has since become an important member of Mikel Arteta’s squad. When asked which teammate he is glad is on his side, Tomiyasu said:
“Gabriel Martinelli. He never stops. He has pace, aggression. He’s still young, but when he has the ball he wants to make the difference, he wants to do something.” Tomiyasu told Goal.
It is clear that Tomiyasu holds Martinelli in high regard and it is easy to see why. The 21-year-old has already scored 7 goals and provided 2 assists in all competitions this season. His pace and directness have made him a nightmare for defenders to deal with and it is no surprise that Tomiyasu is pleased that he doesn’t have to face him on the pitch.
Tomiyasu himself has was impressive last season too, making 21 appearances for Arsenal in the Premier League this campaign. His versatility means he can play at centre back or right back and his ability on the ball makes him an asset going forward as well as defensively. He also possesses good aerial ability which makes him a threat from set pieces too.
At just 24 years old, Takehiro Tomiyasu already looks set for a bright future at both club and international level. His admiration for Gabriel Martinelli shows just how highly he rates his Arsenal teammate and it will be interesting to see how both players progress over the coming years.
