Arteta told to bench fan favourite player in upcoming final Premier League games
The Premier League will return after the international break and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been told to bench a fan favourite player when club football returns.
Former Arsenal star and legend Paul Merson has given some valuable advice to current manager Mikel Arteta regarding the team’s starting lineup. Merson believes that Gabriel Jesus, who recently returned from a three-month knee injury, should not immediately go back into the starting eleven. Instead, he suggests that Leandro Trossard should continue to play in his place as he has been impressive over the past few weeks.
Trossard arrived at Arsenal in the January transfer window while Jesus was still injured. In his first two months at the club, he has scored one goal and made six assists in the league. Meanwhile, Jesus had scored five goals and made five assists before getting injured in December.
Despite Jesus’ impressive record, Merson believes that Trossard’s recent performances should not be overlooked. He points out that Arsenal has scored three goals, three goals, and four goals in their last three league games respectively, indicating that they are not short of goal scorers.
Merson also highlights the importance of having a player like Jesus on the bench. He describes him as an “unbelievable player” and suggests that he needs to be patient as he returns from injury.
“Gabriel Jesus doesn’t play at the moment, for me. He’s been out a long time. Trossard has come in and hit the ground running. Look at Arsenal’s last three league games – three goals, three goals, four goals. It’s not like they are short of goal scorers.” said Merson writing for Sky Sports.
“Jesus is an unbelievable player to have on the bench, he’s got to be patient. It’s like having a transfer window now and Arsenal buying Jesus – it’s huge.”
For Arsenal, this season has been a promising one so far. They are currently leading the Premier League table with 69 points after 28 games but are closely followed by second-placed Manchester City with 61 points.
As they enter the final stretch of the season, it will be crucial for Arteta to make smart decisions regarding his starting lineup. While Gabriel Jesus is undoubtedly a talented player, it may be wise to give Trossard more playing time if he continues to perform well.
Ultimately, it will be up to Arteta to make these decisions based on what he believes is best for his team. However, with advice from former players like Paul Merson, he can make more informed choices and lead Arsenal towards success this season.
