Mesut Ozil sends a message that will excite the Arsenal supporters
It’s been two years since Mesut Ozil left Arsenal Football Club but he has however sent a message that will excite the supporters of the North London club.
Former Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil has made a statement on his former club, expressing his desire for them to win the Premier League title this season. Ozil, who played for Arsenal for several years before leaving for Fenerbahce in January 2021, said that he would be happy for the fans if they could celebrate a league title in the summer.
“I am relaxed now & I wish the fans of the club really the best because they’ve always been very supportive towards me,” Ozil said in an interview with Marca. “I would be happy for the Arsenal fans if they could celebrate the Premier League title in the summer. They deserve it!”
Arsenal are currently leading the Premier League table with 69 points after 28 games, but are closely followed by second-placed Manchester City, who have 61 points and a game in hand. The Gunners have been in impressive form this season under manager Mikel Arteta, and will be hoping to maintain their lead at the top of the table as they enter the final stretch of the campaign.
Ozil also spoke about his time at Arsenal, saying that he had enjoyed his first few years at the club when they had a great team with many great characters and an amazing manager in Arsene Wenger. However, he acknowledged that things had changed after Wenger left and said that he had no interest in adding fuel to any fires.
The German international announced his retirement from football a few days ago, bringing an end to a successful career that saw him play for some of Europe’s biggest clubs including Real Madrid and Arsenal. Despite some ups and downs during his time at Arsenal, Ozil was widely regarded as one of their most talented players and was instrumental in helping them win three FA Cups during his time at the club.
As Arsenal continue their push for a first league title since 2004, it is clear that Ozil still holds affection for his former club and their fans. Whether they can deliver the title that he desires remains to be seen, but with the likes of Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka in their ranks, Arsenal certainly have the quality to go all the way this season.
