Arsenal have received a blow in their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, as reports suggest that the player would prefer a move to Manchester United over the Gunners. Mount’s contract with Chelsea expires at the end of next season, and while new manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen to keep him at Stamford Bridge, there has been no progress in extending his contract.

Mikel Arteta is reportedly eager to sign the England international, seeing him as an option to slot in on the left side of his midfield. However, Liverpool were thought to be leading the race for Mount’s signature until interest from Old Trafford emerged. According to The Athletic, Mount is “leaning towards” a move to United.

Mount has had an impressive season with Chelsea, scoring three goals and making two assists so far. The campaign is yet to end as the Premier League still has one more game week. The 24-year-old midfielder has been a key player for Chelsea this season.

Mount’s versatility and work rate make him an attractive prospect for any top club looking for midfield reinforcements. He can play in a number of positions across midfield and attack and has shown that he can score goals and create chances for his teammates.

While Arsenal will be disappointed by this news, they will not be giving up on their pursuit of Mount just yet. The Gunners are expected to make a formal offer for the midfielder in the coming weeks, hoping that they can convince him to join them instead of United.

It remains to be seen where Mount will end up next season, but one thing is clear: he will have no shortage of suitors. With his contract set to expire soon, he could become one of the most sought-after players on the transfer market this summer.
