Arteta makes plea to Arsenal fans ahead of Aubameyang’s return to Emirates Stadium
Arsenal former striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang surprised everyone when he joined their London rivals Chelsea and Mikel Arteta has made a plea to the fans ahead of his return to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has urged the club’s supporters to show respect and gratitude towards Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang when he returns to the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night as a Chelsea player. Aubameyang left Arsenal in January 2022 but returned to the Premier League in the summer transfer window, joining their London rivals.
Despite his departure, Arteta has called on Arsenal fans to remember Aubameyang’s contributions to the club during his time there. The Gabonese striker was a prolific scorer for Arsenal, netting 90+ goals in 140+ appearances across all competitions. He also served as captain of the team and helped lead them to an FA Cup victory in 2020.
As Arsenal continue their push for a Premier League title this season. However, Arteta believes that showing appreciation for former players like Aubameyang can help create a positive atmosphere at the Emirates and boost the team’s chances of success.
“Say thank you, pay him the respect & gratitude for what he was,” Arteta said of Aubameyang. “He was an incredible player for us, he scored a lot of goals, he was our captain – he deserves that. Thank you & be grateful.”
Arsenal are currently second in the Premier League table with 75 points after 33 games but are closely following first-placed Manchester City who have 76 points plus two games in hand. With just five games remaining in the season, every point counts as Arsenal look to secure their first league title since 2004.
The return of Aubameyang to the Emirates Stadium is sure to be an emotional one for both him and Arsenal fans alike. While some may feel bitter about his departure and subsequent move to Chelsea, Arteta’s call for respect and gratitude is a reminder that football is ultimately a game of passion and loyalty.
As Arsenal continue their title push, they will need the support of their fans more than ever. Showing appreciation for former players like Aubameyang can help create a positive atmosphere at the Emirates and give the team the boost they need to achieve their goals.
