Manchester City are reportedly eyeing up a move for Arsenal’s 16-year-old sensation, Ethan Nwaneri. The Premier League leaders are said to be confident of securing the young talent, who is yet to sign professional terms with the Gunners as per a report by Football Insider.

Nwaneri made history earlier this season when he became the youngest-ever Premier League player at just 15 years and 181 days old. However, he has not been selected for the first team since then.

Manchester City are known for their focus on developing young talent and have been scouring the market for the best prospects in England and Europe. Nwaneri is seen as a prime target due to his potential and impressive performances in Arsenal’s youth teams.

The teenager has been playing for Arsenal’s under-18s and under-21s this season, scoring six goals in four assists in 26 appearances.

Nwaneri’s contract situation at Arsenal means that he cannot sign professional terms until he turns 17, which could give Manchester City an advantage in their pursuit of him. The Premier League leaders have a track record of signing promising young players from other clubs, such as Jadon Sancho and Phil Foden.

If Nwaneri does make the move to Manchester City, he will join a club with one of the best youth academies in world football. The likes of Foden, Eric Garcia and Liam Delap have all made their breakthroughs into the first team under Pep Guardiola’s guidance.

However, Arsenal will be keen to keep hold of their talented youngster and may offer him a professional contract once he turns 17. It remains to be seen whether Manchester City’s interest will lead to a bidding war for Nwaneri’s signature or if he will stay put at Arsenal.
