Arsenal’s new signing, Declan Rice, has recently revealed that he had already met and watched one of his new teammates, Bukayo Saka, when he was still young. The 24-year-old midfielder expressed his admiration for the 21-year-old winger during an interview with Arsenal’s YouTube channel.
Rice shared that he first saw Saka play for England’s under 17s or under 18s at St George’s Park. He specifically mentioned that Saka played as a left wing-back during that time. The young Englishman has since experienced tremendous growth in his career, impressing both fans and fellow players alike.
“You wouldn’t of known this but I watched you play for England’s under 17s at St George’s or under 18s.” Rice told Saka when quizzed about how the pair met via Arsenal’s YouTube channel
During the interview, Rice also praised Saka’s work ethic and positive attitude. He mentioned how everyone immediately loved him because of his happy demeanor and dedication on the training pitch. It is evident that Saka has earned the respect of his teammates from day one.
