Wenger reveals two factors that will make Arsenal fail in race for Premier League title
Arsenal former manager Arsene Wenger has opened up on two factors that could make the gunners fail in race for the Premier League title.
Arsene Wenger, the former manager of Arsenal, has recently shared his thoughts on the two factors that could potentially disrupt Arsenal’s chances of challenging for the Premier League title in the 2023/24 season. Wenger believes that Arsenal’s young team and their involvement in the Champions League could pose challenges for their title aspirations.
Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast, Wenger acknowledged that Arsenal still have a young and talented team. He expressed confidence that they have learned from the mental difficulties they faced last season when they were unable to cope with the pressure of the title race. Wenger’s comments suggest that he believes this experience will benefit the team in their pursuit of success this season.
“I believe as well that City having lost De Bruyne for a long period and Gundogan, who was a very important player, even if they are a top team I don’t disagree with that, but maybe they can take advantage of it. But we have to deal with the Champions League, so that costs points as well.” said Wenger.
Furthermore, Wenger pointed out that injuries and departure of key players at Manchester City, such as Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan, could provide an opportunity for Arsenal to gain an advantage. While he acknowledged City’s status as a top team, Wenger believes that their absence may create an opening for Arsenal to close the gap and challenge for the title.
However, Wenger also highlighted the potential impact of Arsenal’s participation in the Champions League. He noted that competing in Europe’s elite club competition can be demanding and may result in dropped points in the Premier League. This observation suggests that Wenger recognizes the need for Arsenal to strike a balance between their domestic and European commitments in order to sustain their title challenge.
Currently, Arsenal sits in fifth place in the Premier League table with 10 points from four games. Their next match will be against Everton after the international break concludes. Last season, Arsenal were engaged in a closely contested title race with Manchester City. However, a defeat against Nottingham Forest in the 37th game week ultimately cost them the trophy, as City finished with 89 points compared to Arsenal’s 84.
Despite leading the league table for a significant portion of the season, Arsenal had to settle for second place. This disappointment serves as motivation for the team to rectify their mistakes and mount a stronger challenge this year. With the guidance and insights of former manager Arsene Wenger, Arsenal will aim to overcome the obstacles posed by their youthfulness and the demands of European competition to compete for the Premier League title in the 2023/24 season.
