Arteta hints at doing something special for Declan Rice
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has openly hint at doing something very special for Declan Rice ahead of the gunners match against West Ham United.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted at giving new signing Declan Rice a chance to face his former club, West Ham, in the upcoming Carabao Cup clash on Wednesday. The 24-year-old midfielder joined the Gunners for a staggering fee of £105m in the summer transfer window, making him one of the club’s most expensive signings.
Rice, who spent his entire career at West Ham before making the move to Arsenal, will be returning to his old stomping grounds for the first time since his departure. And Arteta believes it will be a special moment for the Englishman.
“He’s likely. He’s fit and can be involved. It will be his first time back at his old club and a beautiful moment I think for him,” Arteta told reporters including Chris Wheatley.
The Gunners are currently in a strong position on the Premier League table, sitting in 2nd place with 24 points in the 2023/24 campaign. Their recent game against Sheffield United at the Emirates Stadium ended in a dominant 5-0 victory for the Gunners, showcasing their attacking prowess.
With Rice now fully fit and available for selection, Arteta could use this opportunity to give him some game time against his former team. The midfielder has yet to make his debut for Arsenal, and this could be the perfect chance for him to showcase his abilities and prove himself to his new manager and teammates.
The Carabao Cup round of 16 clash against West Ham will be a tough test for Arsenal, as they will be facing a familiar opponent who knows their style of play. But with Rice potentially in the lineup, it could give them an edge and add an extra layer of motivation for the Gunners to secure a win.
Rice’s versatility and defensive prowess will also come in handy for Arsenal, who have been struggling with injuries in their midfield. With his experience playing against West Ham, he could provide valuable insights and help his new team come out on top.
It remains to be seen if Arteta will indeed give Rice a chance to face his former club, but one thing is for sure – it will be an emotional and exciting moment for the midfielder. And with his talent and potential, he could be the missing piece in Arsenal’s quest for silverware this season.
