Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has spoken openly about the costly mistake made by goalkeeper David Raya during their recent victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby. While acknowledging the error, Arteta emphasized the importance of learning from such moments and commended Raya’s resilience in bouncing back.

Raya’s misplaced pass in the second half gifted Tottenham their first goal, igniting their comeback attempt. Reflecting on the incident, Arteta told Arsenal Media: “It’s part of football. I don’t like the principles we applied at that moment, and after that, it can happen. You misjudge the situation, you try to make the pass and you don’t, and you have doubts.”

Despite the mistake, Arteta praised Raya’s response and his contribution to the eventual victory. “They took advantage of that. And then for the penalty, it was another principle inside the box that you cannot do. It’s part of football, but what I loved is that David picked up Gabriel Magalhaes – who is quite heavy – then he was sensational for the last 20 or 25 minutes of the game. That is what I love about the players.”

Arteta’s comments highlight the importance of mental strength and resilience in football. Mistakes are inevitable, but it is the response to those errors that defines a player’s character. Raya’s ability to overcome his initial error and deliver a strong performance in the closing stages of the match demonstrates his mental fortitude and determination.

I just love writing and football so much ever since the 2000's when football got popular in our country. I am a self esteemed person who believes is am always right.
