Arsenal’s Kai Havertz clearly opens up on his favourite position on the pitch
Arsenal attacker Kai Havertz has openly talked about his favourite position on the pitch after it had become a center of discussion in the previous season.

Arsenal midfielder Kai Havertz has opened up about his favorite position on the pitch, offering insights into his role and aspirations at the club. Speaking candidly, Havertz emphasized his preference for playing as a number 9, while also highlighting the evolving nature of this position in modern football.
When asked about his favorite position, Havertz said, “I clearly see myself as a number 9 in the national team – and that’s what I am now at Arsenal. But I don’t mean the classic nine. Where else are they available? Even Erling Haaland or Harry Kane, who you immediately think of, don’t just stand in the box and wait for the finish. The players who are waiting there no longer exist in modern football.”
Havertz elaborated on his style of play, stating, “I am someone who enjoys letting go and making deep runs. But it is also clear to me that I will be measured by goals.” His comments reflect a modern interpretation of the number 9 role, which involves not only scoring but also contributing to the build-up play and creating opportunities for teammates.
The 2023/24 season saw Arsenal finishing in 2nd place in the Premier League with 89 points, just two points behind champions Manchester City. Havertz played a significant role in Arsenal’s successful campaign, scoring 13 goals and providing 7 assists. His performance was instrumental in Arsenal’s attacking prowess, complementing the contributions of other key players like captain Martin Ødegaard, who scored 8 goals and provided 10 assists.
Havertz’s ability to adapt to the demands of modern football makes him a valuable asset for Arsenal. His versatility and understanding of the game allow him to operate effectively in different attacking roles, providing Mikel Arteta with tactical flexibility.
As Arsenal looks to build on their impressive season and challenge for the Premier League title, Havertz’s role as a dynamic number 9 will be crucial. His determination to score goals and contribute to the team’s success bodes well for the future, and fans will be eager to see how he continues to develop and influence games from his favored position.
