As the 2023/24 season draws to a close, Arsenal are wasting no time in strengthening their squad for the next campaign. According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the North London club is on the verge of securing their first major signing of the summer transfer window.

“Arsenal are pushing to get Riccardo Calafiori deal done next week as final round of talks has already been scheduled,” Romano revealed on his social media channels. “Arsenal are confident as Calafiori wants the move, he’s keen on #AFC project and agreed on contract until June 2029 for €4m net/season.”

The 22-year-old Riccardo Calafiori, a highly-rated center-back, is set to join Arsenal from Serie A side Bologna. The young defender enjoyed an impressive 2022/23 campaign, featuring in 30 league games and showcasing his talent as a versatile and capable defender.

Calafiori’s arrival will provide much-needed depth and competition for Arsenal’s backline, as the Gunners look to build on their successful 2023/24 season. Mikel Arteta’s side finished the campaign in second place with 89 points, narrowly missing out on the Premier League title to Manchester City, who secured the trophy with 91 points.

The addition of Calafiori signals Arsenal’s intent to further strengthen their squad and mount a serious challenge for the league title in the upcoming season. The young Italian’s reported contract until 2029, coupled with a €4 million net per season salary, underscores the club’s belief in his potential and their commitment to his long-term development.

With the final round of negotiations already scheduled, Arsenal fans can look forward to seeing Calafiori don the famous red and white jersey in the near future. The acquisition of this highly-rated defender could be the first of many exciting signings for the Gunners as they aim to take the next step and reclaim their place at the top of English football.
