Arsenal have officially announced the signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, making the 22-year-old Italian left-back their first acquisition of the 2024 summer transfer window. The deal, reportedly worth around €45 million, sees the promising defender join the Gunners on a long-term contract.

Calafiori, a product of the prestigious Roma youth academy, has impressed at every level of his career. He spent 12 years honing his skills in the Giallorossi’s academy before gaining valuable experience on loan at Genoa during the 2021/22 season.

Following a spell with Basel in Switzerland, Calafiori returned to Italy, joining Bologna in August 2023. His consistent performances earned him a place in the Italian national team squad for Euro 2024, further highlighting his potential and quality. Calafiori’s dominant displays, characterized by his physicality and strength, saw him awarded the Serie A Player of the Month award for May 2024.

The arrival of Calafiori represents a significant investment for Arsenal, who are bolstering their defensive ranks with a player known for his composure, technical ability, and impressive attacking instincts.
