Arsenal receive a huge boost in their pursuit of Riccardo Calafiori
As the summer transfer window heats up, Arsenal have been handed a significant boost in their pursuit of highly-rated Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori. According to leading transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the player has his heart set on a move to the Emirates Stadium, despite interest from other clubs.
Calafiori, who plies his trade for Serie A side Bologna, has emerged as a top target for the Gunners as they look to strengthen their backline ahead of the upcoming 2024/25 season. The 22-year-old center-back enjoyed an impressive campaign, making 30 league appearances for his club and showcasing his potential on the Italian top-flight stage.
In his latest update, Di Marzio revealed that while Bologna are demanding a hefty fee of €50 million plus bonuses for the youngster, Arsenal’s offer is a bit lower. However, the journalist believes that the Gunners are confident of reaching an agreement with the Italian club, thanks to Calafiori’s unwavering desire to join the north London outfit.
“Bologna want €50m plus bonuses, Arsenal is a bit less in their offer, but I think they will do the deal,” Di Marzio said on Sky Sports Premier League. “In his mind, it’s ONLY Arsenal. Even Chelsea tried to get him. Arsenal is considered the perfect step in his career.”
This revelation will undoubtedly come as a significant boost for Arsenal, who narrowly missed out on the Premier League title in the previous campaign, finishing second behind Manchester City. The addition of Calafiori, a highly-rated and ambitious young defender, could prove to be a crucial piece in their quest to challenge for the league crown once again.
With just over a month until the start of the new season, Arsenal’s pursuit of Riccardo Calafiori has taken an encouraging turn. The player’s willingness to join the Gunners, despite interest from other top clubs, underscores the growing pull and prestige of Mikel Arteta’s project at the Emirates. If the two clubs can reach an agreement, Arsenal could be set to welcome a promising talent who could make a significant impact in the years to come.
