Arsenal legend reveals the gunners player that is a nightmare for defenders

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has declared his admiration for new signing Kai Havertz, labeling him a “special player” who is a “nightmare” for opposing defenders. Merson believes Havertz’s intelligence and movement create havoc for center-backs, making him a valuable asset to the Gunners.
“I am a big fan of Havertz, always have been,” Merson stated. “I think he is a special player. You put him in a team like Arsenal with players with good brains, because he has a very good brain as well, and you then start getting that little bit of play. Quick thinking from the players such as Saka, Ødegaard and Rice’s.”

Merson highlighted Havertz’s ability to cause problems for defenders regardless of their approach. “If he drops off, then Martinelli will go and Saka will go. He causes problems. He is a bit of a nightmare for a center-half, in my opinion. If you go in with him and you follow him, you have got pace on the flanks and if you don’t go with him, he will turn in and cause you havoc.”
Merson’s praise for Havertz speaks volumes about the German’s potential impact at Arsenal. Havertz’s unique style of play, characterized by intelligence, movement, and creativity, makes him a difficult player to mark. His ability to operate in multiple attacking positions also adds a dynamic element to the Arsenal attack.
With a strong support cast in the form of Saka, Ødegaard, and Rice, Havertz has the potential to flourish in North London. Merson’s confidence in the German’s ability to be a game-changer for the Gunners adds another layer of excitement to the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
