Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber was absent from the Gunners’ 4-1 friendly victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, with manager Mikel Arteta confirming a minor foot discomfort as the reason for his absence.

“He had a little discomfort in his foot the last few days. After the time he has been out, we did not want to take any risks,” Arteta told the media.

Timber, a summer signing from Ajax, is still finding his feet in North London after a knee injury sustained in pre-season training sidelined him for several weeks. The Dutch defender’s absence from the Leverkusen match serves as a reminder of the delicate nature of his recovery.

While the issue appears to be minor, Arteta’s cautionary approach highlights the importance of ensuring Timber’s full fitness ahead of the new Premier League season, which kicks off with a home clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, August 17th.

The manager is likely to prioritize Timber’s long-term health, aiming to avoid a potential re-injury that could derail his progress. The club will be hoping that the issue is short-lived and that Timber will be available for the season opener against Wolves.

The absence of Timber in the Leverkusen friendly provided an opportunity for other defenders to stake their claim for a starting spot, but with the season just around the corner, Arsenal fans will be eagerly awaiting news on Timber’s recovery and hoping for his swift return to full fitness.

I enjoy football so much and I am in love with Arsenal Football Club. I always watch the matches and will always give you my opinions about the game here.
