Arteta speaks out on whether Arsenal will make a Declan Rice like signing this summer
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has dampened expectations of another blockbuster signing this summer, following last year’s record-breaking £115 million acquisition of Declan Rice.
Speaking to the media, Arteta acknowledged the club’s significant investment in Rice, who proved to be a transformative addition to the squad. However, when asked about the possibility of another high-profile signing, Arteta was clear: “We don’t expect to do anything like that at this moment, that’s the reality.”
The statement comes as Arsenal have already secured the services of Riccardo Calafiori, signing the left-back from Bologna for a fee believed to be around €45 million.
Despite the initial outlay on Calafiori, Arteta’s comments suggest that Arsenal are taking a more measured approach to transfer activity this summer. The club’s focus could shift towards strategic additions rather than headline-grabbing deals, indicating a shift in their transfer strategy.
While a big-money signing remains unlikely, Arsenal’s transfer window is still in its early stages. With several key areas requiring reinforcement, the club could still make strategic acquisitions to further strengthen their squad.
However, Arteta’s clear statement about not expecting another “Declan Rice-level” signing suggests that the club is prioritizing financial sustainability and calculated investments, while focusing on integrating their existing talent and developing their young stars.
