Ramsdale reveals his current relationship with Arteta after manager booted him out
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has revealed that he still maintains a good relationship with manager Mikel Arteta, despite his departure from the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Ramsdale joined Southampton after losing his starting spot to newly signed David Raya, but he insists that there are no hard feelings towards Arteta.
“What Mikel did for me in my time at Arsenal, I can only thank him for and he thanked me for my contribution as well,” Ramsdale said. “As a football club, getting back into the Champions League and pushing for a trophy, and ultimately as managers do, they often make decisions that upset people. He made that decision, but we still speak.”
The 26-year-old goalkeeper acknowledges that Arteta’s decision to bring in Raya was ultimately a managerial call, one that often leads to difficult choices. However, Ramsdale emphasized that despite the situation, he still holds Arteta in high regard.
Looking ahead, Ramsdale is focused on his new chapter with Southampton, aiming to regain regular playing time. Interestingly, he will face his former club Arsenal in a few weeks, providing an opportunity to test himself against his previous teammates and manager.
“I’m looking forward to getting some games under my belt here,” Ramsdale said. “We play them in a few weeks’ time which will be a nice return.”
Ramsdale’s departure marked the end of a successful chapter at Arsenal. He played a significant role in the club’s resurgence under Arteta, helping to solidify their defense and contributing to their impressive league form. While his time at the Emirates may be over, his respect for Arteta remains, demonstrating the professionalism and mutual respect that exists between the two.
