Arsenal legend Ian Wright has candidly addressed the growing frustration among fans over the team’s recent sub-par performances, urging supporters not to use Martin Ødegaard’s absence as a crutch for their struggles. The Gunners have faced a dip in form in recent weeks, marked by a lack of creativity and potency in their attack, which has drawn criticism as they strive to keep pace with Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Wright highlighted the pressing need for Arsenal to elevate their performances regardless of Ødegaard’s availability. “It really is quite frustrating to be ten games in and feeling like we feel now, and that’s only because we know how tough it is to try and chase down Manchester City,” Wright said. His comments reflect the anxiety shared by fans as Arsenal currently sit in 4th place with 18 points from 10 matches.

Wright was especially critical of the attacking inefficiency that has plagued the team, pointing out their lack of cutting edge. “One shot on target against Bournemouth, one shot on target today. It’s not good enough. It’s not good enough for a team that is going for the title,” he stated, emphasizing that the squad needs to step up collectively and not rely solely on the return of their Norwegian playmaker.

Ødegaard’s absence has been significant, no doubt impacting the team’s fluidity and offensive cohesion. However, Wright made it clear that Arsenal must find solutions within the current squad. “We can’t keep saying that we’re missing Martin Ødegaard. We can’t keep saying that because we know we’re missing that,” he added, calling for a mindset shift and immediate improvement.

As Arsenal prepare for crucial fixtures, including a Champions League showdown against Inter Milan, Wright’s words resonate as a call to action for both the players and management to recalibrate and push forward in their campaign.
