Arteta Provides Injury Updates on Gabriel Magalhães and Riccardo Calafiori
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided clarity on the injuries of key defenders Gabriel Magalhães and Riccardo Calafiori, both of whom missed the Gunners’ crucial 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium. Speaking to Arsenal Media after the match, Arteta detailed the situations surrounding the absences and offered insight into their potential availability for upcoming fixtures.
Gabriel Magalhães, a cornerstone of Arsenal’s defensive line, was ruled out as a precaution following concerns stemming from the Gunners’ recent Premier League clash with West Ham United. According to Arteta, the Brazilian center-back experienced discomfort during the match and was deemed too much of a risk to feature against United. Despite his absence, Arsenal’s backline, anchored by William Saliba and Jakub Kiwior, successfully kept United at bay, securing a clean sheet.
“Gabi was a big risk to play today because he felt something against West Ham,” Arteta explained.
Meanwhile, left-back Riccardo Calafiori also missed the Manchester United fixture due to injury. The Italian defender, who has quickly become an integral part of Arteta’s squad, is undergoing assessment to determine his readiness for Arsenal’s upcoming Premier League match against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Arteta expressed optimism about Calafiori’s recovery, emphasizing the importance of managing his return carefully.
“Sunday is going to be a possibility with Riccardo as well, let’s see how he reacts.” said Arteta.
The absence of Gabriel and Calafiori was felt, but Arteta’s squad depth ensured Arsenal’s defensive solidity remained intact. The performance of deputies like Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko highlighted the team’s adaptability, a trait Arteta has repeatedly praised throughout the season.
As Arsenal prepare to face Fulham on Sunday, fans will eagerly await further updates on Gabriel and Calafiori. With the Gunners sitting in third place in the Premier League table, just behind Chelsea on goal difference, the upcoming fixture represents another vital step in their pursuit of the title. Arteta, ever the perfectionist, will hope to have as many of his key players available as possible.
Arsenal’s recent resurgence has been driven by collective effort, and the Gunners’ depth could prove pivotal in navigating the challenges of a grueling campaign. Should Gabriel and Calafiori return in time for Sunday’s match, their inclusion would undoubtedly bolster Arsenal’s bid for another three points. Until then, Arteta remains focused on ensuring his squad is prepared, regardless of who is available.
