Arsenal receive fresh new boost in their pursuit of Ollie Watkins

Arsenal have received a major boost in their pursuit of Ollie Watkins, as the striker would reportedly be open to joining the Gunners. However, Aston Villa remain determined to keep hold of their star forward, making any potential transfer a complicated affair, according to The Daily Mail.
Mikel Arteta’s side has been actively searching for a new striker before the January transfer window closes, and Watkins has emerged as one of their top targets. The England international has been in excellent form for Villa this season, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists in the Premier League. His ability to lead the line, link up play, and provide a consistent goal threat has made him an attractive option for Arsenal, who are looking to strengthen their squad in the race for the Premier League title.
Despite Villa’s reluctance to sell, reports suggest that Watkins would be open to the idea of joining Arsenal. The lure of playing Champions League football and competing for major honors could be appealing for the 29-year-old striker. Arsenal’s attacking options have come under scrutiny this season, with Gabriel Jesus struggling with injuries and Eddie Nketiah—who has already left the club—not seen as a long-term solution. Watkins’ arrival would give Arteta a reliable and proven Premier League goalscorer.
However, Villa are not willing to let him go without a fight. Unai Emery’s side is currently in contention for a top-four finish, and Watkins is central to their ambitions. The club has already shown resistance to selling their key players, and they reportedly value Watkins at over £80 million. Arsenal had initially made an offer north of £40 million, but Villa’s stance suggests they would demand significantly more to even consider negotiations.
Villa’s reluctance to sell is further reinforced by the departure of Jhon Durán, who is set to join Al Nassr for a fee of around €77 million. Losing both of their primary strikers in the same transfer window would be a major blow, making it even more unlikely that they would sanction a deal for Watkins unless Arsenal makes an offer too good to refuse.
For Arsenal, time is running out in the transfer window, and it remains to be seen whether they will return with an improved bid. The Gunners are determined to bring in a top-class striker to bolster their attack, and Watkins remains one of the best options available. However, with Villa standing firm, Arsenal may need to look elsewhere if they are unable to break down the Midlands club’s resistance.
As the deadline approaches, the situation remains fluid. Arsenal will continue to monitor developments closely, knowing that a striker signing could be the difference between mounting a serious title challenge and falling short once again. Whether they can persuade Villa to part ways with Watkins remains to be seen, but the fact that the player himself is open to a move will give Arsenal encouragement as they weigh up their next move.
