Arteta reveals Odegaard’s problem just hours to Arsenal vs Manchester United game

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has shed light on the challenges facing captain Martin Ødegaard, just hours before their highly-anticipated FA Cup showdown against Manchester United. Speaking to the press, Arteta acknowledged the Norwegian playmaker’s recent dip in form and attributed it to a combination of factors, including the absence of Bukayo Saka, his close on-field partner, and lingering fitness issues.
Ødegaard Feeling the Absence of Saka
Arteta pointed out how Ødegaard’s game has been affected by Saka’s unavailability, stating, “It can be an element of that. Martin came back from an injury and in the first week or two, you have that extra energy, and then you play every three days. He was ill as well for over a week, and that plays a part.”
Saka and Ødegaard have developed an exceptional understanding over the last few seasons, with their link-up play being a cornerstone of Arsenal’s attacking success. Saka’s ability to stretch defenses and create space often complements Ødegaard’s vision and creativity in the midfield. Without Saka in the lineup, Ødegaard appears to lack the same rhythm and fluidity in his performances, which Arteta has noticed.

The Impact of Fatigue and Illness
Ødegaard’s recent fitness struggles have also played a significant role in his performances. Arteta noted that returning from injury, coupled with the relentless schedule of playing every three days, has taken its toll on the 26-year-old midfielder. To make matters worse, Ødegaard was sidelined by illness for over a week, further disrupting his rhythm.
“He was ill as well for over a week, and that plays a part,” Arteta explained. “There’s a lot of circumstances. Obviously, it’s inevitable to think when you have such a chemistry with a player and you’re not together next to each other, you’re going to notice that something is different.”
A Key Player Under Pressure
As Arsenal’s captain and creative engine, Ødegaard’s performances are pivotal to the team’s success. With Bukayo Saka absent and the pressure mounting ahead of a key fixture against Manchester United, the spotlight on Ødegaard has intensified. Fans will be hoping the Norwegian can rediscover his best form and inspire the team to victory, despite the challenges he is currently facing.
Arteta’s comments highlight the delicate balance required to manage players’ physical and mental well-being in the midst of a demanding season. While Ødegaard’s recent struggles are concerning, Arteta’s understanding of the circumstances provides hope that the player will soon bounce back.
A Tough Test Ahead
As Arsenal prepare to face Manchester United in a crucial FA Cup encounter, all eyes will be on Ødegaard to see if he can rise to the occasion. With Saka unavailable, Ødegaard will need to shoulder even more responsibility in driving Arsenal’s attack. His ability to adapt and overcome these challenges could prove decisive in determining the outcome of the match and set the tone for the rest of Arsenal’s season.
