Arsenal’s hopes of signing Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško during the January transfer window have taken a significant hit following comments from his agent, Elvis Basanovic. The highly-rated RB Leipzig forward had been linked with a potential move to the Emirates, but Basanovic has categorically dismissed these rumors, putting an end to any speculation.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Basanovic said, “I don’t know from where does this story come. I never talked with Arsenal about the loan of Šeško. Šeško is not a player for loans, never a topic for Arsenal or any other club.” This statement unequivocally rules out the possibility of Arsenal securing the 21-year-old striker on a temporary deal, a blow to fans hoping for attacking reinforcements amid Gabriel Jesus’ injury concerns.

Šeško’s Rising Profile

Benjamin Šeško has been one of the most exciting young prospects in European football, earning widespread attention for his performances. Since moving to RB Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg, the Slovenian international has continued to develop, showcasing his physicality, pace, and goal-scoring prowess.

Šeško’s reputation as a future star has made him a coveted name in the transfer market. However, Basanovic’s statement makes it clear that Leipzig sees Šeško as a key part of their long-term plans. Arsenal’s hopes of signing him, even on a loan deal, appear to be unrealistic at this stage.

Arsenal’s Striker Dilemma

The Gunners have been in the market for a striker to bolster their attacking options, especially with Gabriel Jesus sidelined due to a suspected ACL injury. While Eddie Nketiah is no longer with the club, Mikel Arteta has been relying on a combination of Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard to fill the void in recent matches. However, with Arsenal competing on multiple fronts, the need for a proven goal scorer remains urgent.

Šeško’s agent’s comments now force Arsenal to reconsider their approach in the January transfer window. Whether they will shift their focus to other targets or stick with their current squad remains to be seen. For now, the dream of signing Benjamin Šeško appears to be off the table.
