Arsenal 5-1 Manchester City Match Report and all you need to know

Arsenal delivered a stunning statement victory at the Emirates Stadium, thrashing Manchester City 5-1 in a dominant display that reignited their Premier League title hopes. The Gunners were relentless from the first whistle, pressing City high and punishing them for their mistakes.
The scoring began just two minutes into the game when Manuel Akanji was caught in possession, allowing Kai Havertz to set up Martin Ødegaard for a powerful finish. Arsenal thought they had doubled their lead minutes later when Gabriel Martinelli delicately chipped Ederson, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
City regrouped in the second half and managed to draw level through Erling Haaland’s looping header, briefly silencing the home crowd. However, Arsenal responded instantly, with Thomas Partey firing in a deflected effort from long range just 38 seconds after City’s equalizer.
The hosts continued to pile on the pressure, and their attacking intent paid off. Teenage sensation Myles Lewis-Skelly made an immediate impact after coming on, while Havertz got on the scoresheet in the 76th minute, finishing off a deadly counterattack. The perfect ending to a sensational performance came in stoppage time when another Arsenal youngster, Ethan Nwaneri, showed great composure to slot home the fifth goal in the 93rd minute.
It was a dominant display from Arsenal, who far exceeded their 1.04 expected goals (xG), while City struggled to impose themselves, overperforming slightly on their 0.81 xG. The result keeps Arsenal second in the Premier League table with 50 points after 24 matches, now just six points behind leaders Liverpool. Meanwhile, City remain in fourth place, falling further behind in the title race.
Up next for Arsenal is a crucial Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Wednesday, February 5. The Gunners will be looking to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit and book their place in the final.
