Arteta’s genius plan to cope without Saka and Martinelli revealed

Arsenal could be forced to deploy an unexpected solution after suffering a double setback on the wings. Both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are sidelined with injuries, leaving Mikel Arteta with limited options in the wide areas. However, a report by The Standard suggests that Kieran Tierney could be tried in an advanced role by Mikel Arteta as Arsenal look to navigate this crisis.
Tierney, currently on loan at Real Sociedad, has always been known for his attacking intent despite primarily operating as a left-back. His ability to drive forward, deliver dangerous crosses, and his relentless energy have made him a fan favorite. While Arsenal have used him exclusively in defensive roles in the past, his offensive attributes could now be an asset in an emergency situation.

Arteta has previously experimented with unconventional positional changes. Oleksandr Zinchenko was converted into an inverted full-back, Kai Havertz was transformed into a deep-lying midfielder, and even Jakub Kiwior has been deployed in different defensive positions. Using Tierney as a winger would not be out of the ordinary, especially given Arsenal’s current lack of natural wide players.
The Scottish defender has experience playing further forward, particularly during his time at Celtic, where he frequently overlapped and even delivered assists from advanced positions. His pace, physicality, and willingness to take on defenders could make him a useful short-term solution.
Arsenal’s upcoming fixtures will be crucial in the title race, and without Saka and Martinelli, Arteta must find ways to maintain his team’s attacking threat. If Tierney is recalled and tested in that role, it would be one of the most unexpected tactical shifts under Arteta. However, desperate times call for creative solutions, and this could be one that helps Arsenal stay on track for their ambitions.
