BREAKING: A decision is finally made by Arsenal on signing Mathys Tel on deadline day

Arsenal’s pursuit of Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel appears to have come to an end, at least for this January transfer window. According to Sky Sports, the Gunners are unlikely to follow up on their initial interest in the French forward before the transfer deadline shuts. While Arsenal explored the conditions of a possible deal, no agreement was reached, and as things stand, a move is not expected to materialize.

The North London club had identified Tel as a potential attacking reinforcement, particularly as they sought to add more depth to their frontline. However, Bayern Munich have been reluctant to sanction his departure, especially in the middle of the season, with the club still competing on multiple fronts. Reports suggested that Arsenal initially looked into a possible loan deal, but Bayern’s preference for keeping the 18-year-old has made negotiations difficult.

Tel is regarded as one of the Bundesliga club’s most promising young talents. Since joining Bayern from Rennes in 2022, he has shown flashes of brilliance despite limited starts under Kompany. While he has had to settle for a squad rotation role this season, Bayern have continued to emphasize his importance to their long-term plans. Arsenal’s interest stemmed from his versatility and ability to provide competition in attack, particularly with the club pushing for success in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta had been keen on strengthening his squad in January, but the club’s spending power was limited after heavy investments in the summer. The focus was largely on securing smart deals rather than making significant signings. While Arsenal were open to negotiating a loan with an option to buy, Bayern were unwilling to entertain a temporary departure for the player. As a result, the Gunners have now decided to look elsewhere, with the likelihood of completing a deal for Tel before the deadline looking slim.

With the window set to close, Arsenal now appear set to continue their season with the squad already in place. While some fans may be disappointed that no attacking reinforcements will be arriving, Arteta remains confident in the players at his disposal. The likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Kai Havertz will continue to be relied upon for goals, while Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri  provide further depth.

There is still a possibility that Arsenal could revisit their interest in Tel in the summer, depending on how Bayern’s squad planning evolves. If the young forward finds himself on the fringes of the German club’s plans, Arsenal could look to negotiate again at the end of the season. However, for now, the club will shift its focus back to the task at hand—maintaining their push for the Premier League title and making a deep run in the Champions League.

As things stand, the Gunners’ January business looks set to end quietly, with no major incomings expected. Fans will now turn their attention to how Arteta’s current squad performs in the decisive months ahead.
