New report reveals Arsenal already secured a summer signing despite window being months away

Arsenal are preparing to make a major midfield signing in the summer, with Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi looking increasingly likely to make the switch to North London. According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners are confident of securing the Spanish midfielder as they brace for the expected departures of Jorginho and Thomas Partey, both of whom are out of contract at the end of the season.
Zubimendi has long been on Arsenal’s radar, with Mikel Arteta and Edu both seeing him as the perfect addition to the squad. The 25-year-old is regarded as one of the best deep-lying midfielders in La Liga, with his technical ability, defensive awareness, and composure in possession making him an ideal fit for Arsenal’s playing style.
Midfield Overhaul on the Horizon
Jorginho and Partey have been key figures in Arsenal’s midfield over the past two seasons, but with both players entering the final months of their contracts, a transition is inevitable. Jorginho, who arrived from Chelsea in January 2023, has played an important role with his experience and leadership, but at 33 years old, Arsenal are planning for the future.
Meanwhile, Partey has struggled with persistent injury problems, limiting his availability throughout the campaign. Despite his quality when fit, Arsenal are reportedly unwilling to offer him a new long-term deal, paving the way for a potential exit. With both players likely to leave in the summer, Arsenal have prioritized Zubimendi as their long-term solution in midfield.
Why Arsenal Want Zubimendi
Zubimendi has been a standout performer for Real Sociedad in recent seasons, playing a crucial role in their push for European football. His ability to dictate the tempo of games, break up opposition attacks, and contribute in possession makes him a complete defensive midfielder—exactly what Arteta wants in his system.
The Spaniard has a €60 million release clause in his contract, a fee that Arsenal are reportedly willing to meet. However, convincing the player has been the biggest challenge, as he has previously shown loyalty to Sociedad, rejecting a move last summer. This time around, though, with Arsenal pushing for major success in the Premier League and Champions League, Zubimendi may finally be ready for a new challenge.
Competition for His Signature?
While Arsenal are in pole position, they may still face competition from other top clubs across Europe. Barcelona have long been admirers of Zubimendi, though their financial struggles could make it difficult to match Arsenal’s offer. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich and Juventus have also shown interest, but Arsenal’s project and their need for a new midfield leader could give them the edge.
A Key Signing for Arteta’s Future Plans
Securing Zubimendi would be a major coup for Arsenal, reinforcing their midfield with a player capable of dictating games for years to come. With Jorginho and Partey set to depart, his arrival could mark the beginning of a new era for Arsenal’s midfield, as they continue to build a squad capable of challenging for the biggest trophies.
