Arsenal’s legendary former manager Arsène Wenger has revealed that he is praying for Liverpool to slip up in the Premier League title race, as the Gunners look to chase down the league leaders in the final stretch of the 2024/25 season.

Speaking in a recent interview, Wenger did not hide his hopes for Arsenal’s title challenge while acknowledging the uphill task they face. “Look, it’s simple, like they said, they need to lose games, but now we are 25 games played and Liverpool lost one. So Liverpool have to lose three at least in the next 13 games. At the moment, it looks unlikely unless they collapse,” Wenger explained.

The former Arsenal boss, who guided the club to three Premier League titles, including the famous unbeaten Invincibles season in 2003/04, admitted that Liverpool’s consistency this season makes them strong favourites to lift the trophy. With just one defeat in their first 25 games, the Reds currently sit at the top of the table with 60 points, seven points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.

“But until now they lost only one game, so they are the super favourites,” Wenger added. “And on top of that, Arsenal has to make now the perfect run. So I pray, I pray, but I have to improve the quality of my praying.”

Arsenal have been in solid form themselves, with 53 points from 25 games, but Wenger knows how relentless a title race can be. The Gunners will need to be near-perfect in their remaining fixtures while hoping Liverpool falter.

With big games still to come and the pressure building, Arsenal fans will no doubt share Wenger’s prayers for a Liverpool collapse. For Mikel Arteta’s side, the challenge is clear: win every possible game and stay within striking distance in case Liverpool finally slip up.

As Wenger’s comments highlight, football often requires a little bit of hope, luck, and perhaps even prayer. Arsenal fans will be hoping the legendary boss’s prayers are answered as the title race heads toward its dramatic conclusion.
