About Time For Bernd Leno To Start Ahead Of Petr Cech

Arsenal has conceded eight goals this season so far with Petr Cech in between the goal posts but this is certainly the best time to introduce Bernd Leno.

Petr Cech’s performance against Cardiff City is another clear sign that Bernd Leno should be given the No.1 spot because the Czech Republican international has conceded many goals this season so far.

The 36-year-old goalkeeper fumbled with the ball at his feet after he received a pass from a teammate on Sunday and almost gave Cardiff City an easy early goal which could have costed the North Londoners the match. Unai Emery’s new style of play requires attacks to be started from the back by the goalkeeper and his defense but it’s been tough for Cech because he isn’t used to it.

Petr Cech has looked nervous with the ball on various occasions in different matches nearly gifting the opposition with a goal. The veteran shot stopper has had a poor record since the start of last season of making errors that lead to goals and the record has continued this season but Unai Emery has still shown support to him.

As the new season drew closer with a new manager, the fans demands for a new goalkeeper had been met with Emery spending £20m on German keeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, he went ahead to impress in pre-season but is yet to start in the Premier League. The 26-year-old is comfortable with the ball at his feet, has great reflexes and is seen as an upgrade to Cech who is past his best years.

However Unai Emery prefers Cech and has even given him the captain’s arm band, emphasizing that the goalkeeping is the least of his problems that need sorting. Bernd Leno though will most likely feature this month against Brentford in the League Cup as well as the Europa League where he’ll get the chance to impress and maybe change Emery’s mind so that he can be in the starting eleven for Arsenal more often this season.
