Patience Key To Bernd Leno’s Progress

Arsenal fans are complaining that Unai Emery doesn't want to start Bernd Leno in the starting eleven but gunners legend David Seaman has also made his comment.

Arsenal legend David Seaman has urged Bernd Leno to be patient as he bids to become Arsenal’s first choice goalkeeper.

The German International who signed for a fee of £20m is surprisingly yet to make an appearance this season despite Petr Cech’s consistent errors and questionable performances. Bernd Leno ideally would perfectly fit into Unai Emery’s system which requires attacks to be started from the back with Leno being comfortable with the ball at his feet unlike Cech, however the Spanish boss has kept using the veteran shot stopper.

Seaman supports Emery’s faith in Cech and says it would have been wrong to throw Leno into the team purely because he arrived at the Emirates for a significant fee in the summer. The former England goalkeeper said as reported by Metro:

“Just because he cost a lot of money does not mean he goes straight into the team. He has to be patient. Petr Cech has done nothing wrong in goal.” Seaman defended.

“Ok, so he is adjusting to playing with the ball from the box. But he has been able to contribute to the team and has done nothing to cause him to be left out.”

The legendary Arsenal keeper also stated that Leno can learn a lot from Cech despite watching on from the sidelines. He is after all Arsenal’s future keeper, the fact that Cech, 36 will not stay in-goal forever and as things seem, the Czech Republican international will not be given a new contract by the gunners.

Bernd Leno will however get a chance to finally get on the starting eleven for the first time this season when the gunners face Brentford in the Carabao Cup third round which is just a few weeks away. The German goalkeeper will finally get a chance to impress Unai Emery so that he could finally become the first choice.
