Stephan Lichtsteiner Makes Statement On Being Benched

Arsenal right back Stephan Lichtsteiner says that he will work hard to impress Unai Emery so that he could be a regular starter.

Arsenal will on Thursday welcome Vorskla at the Emirates Stadium and this will be their first UEFA Europa League match this season, Stephan Lichtsteiner is likely to be selected in the starting eleven because he has been benched in all of their Premier League matches so far.

The gunners signed Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus on a free transfer last summer because his contract at the Italian club had expired but his move to the Emirates Stadium was first seen as a bad decision by Unai Emery by most Arsenal fans because they believed that he is too old, but his performance in the pre-season matches showed that he is a great asset of theirs because his got much experience.

Stephan Lichtsteiner has however failed to become Unai Emery’s first choice right back despite the support he has from the Arsenal fans to be starting over Hector Bellerin in the Premier League. Stephan Lichtsteiner was with Unai Emery in his post-match press conference on Wednesday and he spoke of how he feels at not playing for the gunners in their first five matches into the new season.

“I’m not frustrated but of course I’m not used to being on the bench more than three times in a row. It’s also a new situation for me and I’m curious how I’ll manage it.” The right back told Arsenal.com.

Stephan Lichtsteiner also added that he knows that he will have to work hard so that he can impress the boss, he says that he is ready to play despite being an old player. The former Juventus star has not started any game this season for the gunners but he will finally get a start this Thursday when the gunners welcome Vorskla.

Stephan Lichtsteiner will be hoping to use this match as a perfect way to get into Unai Emery’s Premier League starting eleven.
