Arsenal is placed fifth on the league log but they are tied with former English Champions Chelsea on 37 points. The Gunners are only below their London counterpart only based on goal difference but the Blues got a better defensive record than Unai Emery’s side this season.
This was made evident as Arsenal lost 2 consecutive matches last week against Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal conceded 5 goals scoring two goals in those two matches and it was quite clear that the defence let Unai Emery down because he has good attacking players.
This is a major concern for Unai as he tries to thinker this Arsenal side to a greater height. However, with the transfer window around the corner it’s obvious he needs to get a center back as the case may be.
On this note we evaluate center backs (players) that would add value to the Arsenal backline.
Gary Cahill (Chelsea)
The Chelsea man would be a good defensive option at the Emirates as he got the quality and composure to shield the Arsenal goal from attacking threat. Cahill will provide the right atmosphere for the Arsenal’s defense to deal with opposition with ease.
Experience is the best teacher as the saying goes as Cahill got massive wealth of ideas to offer to Arsenal Football Club. Cahill was a constant feature at the back for Chelsea under Antonio Conte reign (tenure) at the club.
His role at the left side of the defence was remarkably as his partnership alongside current club skipper Cesar Azpilicueta and David Luiz led Chelsea to Premier League triumph two seasons ago.
This will be of help to Arsenal as they continue to deliberate on the player to purchase in the transfer window.
Leon Balogun (Brighton & Hove Albion)
Arsenal would be making a great signing if they bring Brighton center back to the Emirates. The Nigerian has been impressive in recent weeks which saw him score his first goal in England for his club.
The Gunners would benefit from his experience as he moved to the Premier League from the German Bundesliga side Mainz 05.
A move would be a superb development as the player has formed a rock solid partnership with his International (defense) colleague William Troost-Ekong.
All the same this depends on Unai Emery and the club hierarchy as the club applies caution in letting out money in the transfer window.
Andreas Christensen (Chelsea)
The talented figure has found opportunity limited at Chelsea this season, more like Victor Moses. The Danish center back that had a decent outing last season under manager Antonio Conte has been confined to the bench. Andreas rose to first team as he was preferred ahead of David Luiz in Chelsea starting line-up. This was due to the Brazilian’s injury and break in relationship with club manager Conte.
However, in those appearances the Danish center back had at Chelsea last season, his contribution was superb as his manager believed in him and trusted him with more game time despite the signing of Davide Zappacosta and Antoine Rudiger.
This quality he’s got and his sheer mental assertion on the pitch is what Arsenal can benefit from if they covet the defenders signature.
