Unai Emery to have more power after Arsenal’s decision on the technical director search

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery will be hoping that the club gives him more trust and power to handle the transfers of players if they are unsure of who to give the technical director role.

Arsenal is currently rebuilding itself after Arsene Wenger resigned from his position as the manager of the club after having been in full charge of the team for two decades and Ivan Gazidis’ move to AC Milan. Arsenal wanted to appoint a new technical director before the summer transfer window opened but their two main targets Monchi and Marc Overmars have decided to snub a chance to join the gunners.

Raul Sanllehi who is Arsenal’s director of football let Sven Mislintat because he did not want to offer him the technical director role, he reportedly wanted to give it to Monchi since he worked well with Unai Emery at Sevilla a few years ago but the Spaniard rejected his offer, to return to Sevilla leaving the North Londoners with a slim list of targets that can be offered the technical director role. The Evening Standard has today said that the gunners will not be in any rush to search for a technical director because they don’t want to desperately appoint someone who will not be fruitful but what does this mean for Unai Emery?

Unai Emery is just a head coach and not a manager at Arsenal Football Club because the new management at the Emirates Stadium does not want to give him the same power that was given to Arsene Wenger. So Emery basically tells them the type of players that he needs and the club makes the necessary considerations before bringing in those players.

However, not appointing a technical director now could as well mean that Arsenal will give Unai Emery more power over transfers for at least this upcoming Summer transfer window as Raul Sanllehi waits for the best candidate to take over the technical director role to appear. It would be interesting to see the decisions that Unai Emery would make if he was given full power over transfers at the Emirates Stadium but maybe he won’t get that chance! The summer transfer window is still 10 weeks away and that’s enough time to get a technical director.
