Revealed: The truth about Unai Emery’s contract with Arsenal

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery was reportedly given a two-year deal but this has been debunked by The Athletic's David Ornstein.

Arsenal appointed Unai Emery as their first head coach in May, 2018 and he had a nice start to his campaign going on an unbeaten run of 22 matches but his side collapsed at the end of the season hence the North Londoners missing out on UEFA Champions League football.

There has been various reports concerning the type of contract that Arsenal gave him last year but most claimed that Unai Emery was given a two-year deal with an option for third if they are happy with the results that he is producing. However, these reports have today been proved to be false by The Athletic’s David Ornstein who has a lot of connections to Arsenal Football Club.

The famous reporter has today said that his sources tell him that Unai Emery was given a three-year deal which has no break clause that most publications keep talking about. David Ornstein said in a question and answer session that he’s doing with The Athletic users. He said;

“I’ve been told multiple sources that it’s a three-year contract without a break clause. I could be wrong, it’s just what I’ve been told when asking that specific question.”

The Arsenal fans that want Unai Emery to be let go at the end of the season will not be happy with this because the Spaniard could stay in North London for another year if he gets a top four finish this season because that’s the target that the club gave him at the start of the 2019/20 campaign. However, Unai Emery can still be sacked in the midst of the season if the Arsenal hierarchy is not pleased with how the team is performing.

Arsenal is still in all competitions but the fans have not been happy with their team’s performances with most claiming that Unai Emery’s style is boring but he will now have a chance to change this after the international break as he will now have a fully fit squad.
