West Ham United 1-3 Arsenal: Ljungberg gets his first three points

Arsenal interim head coach Freddie Ljungberg has got his first three points against West Ham United thanks to an incredible performance from the likes of Pepe, Martineli and Aubameyang.

Arsenal’s nine game winless run has finally ended after an incredible second half performance saw them go from one goal down to beat West Ham United 3-1 at the London Stadium. Goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were enough to get Freddie Ljungberg his first three points as the Arsenal boss.

Arsenal came into this match while low on confidence after they had lost to Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday and all eyes were on the players to show that they can turn this around since another loss would see them start fearing about being in a relegation battle. The first half was pretty much what we’ve seen from the squad in the last two months as they continually failed to beat the press by playing out of the back and failed to even register a shot on target in the entire 45 minutes.

West Ham United were on the other hand organised at the back and made great counter attacks and they finally went in front through Ogbonna whose header went into the back of the net after a deflection. The gunners failed to respond in the first half but Freddie Ljungberg’s halftime team talk surely worked as the gunners improved in the next 45 minutes.

Arsenal finally got an equaliser through Gabriel Martinelli who finished off a cross from Sead Kolasinac and this goal totally changed the game as the gunners became hungrier and confident in their passing and now begun taking more risks. A few minutes later, Arsenal took the lead through their record signing Nicolas Pepe who perfectly curled the ball into the back of the net.

The gunners now started playing with more freedom and Pepe was once again involved as he set up Aubameyang who scored Arsenal’s third goal of the day. Freddie Ljungberg will be happy with this win and the fans will be hoping that the club builds on this to try to turn around their season.
