Arsene Wenger slams Unai Emery for saying Arsenal was declining under him

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has slammed Unai Emery for saying that the gunners were declining before he arrived at the Emirates Stadium in May, 2018.

Former Arsenal head coach Unai Emery recently said in an interview that he believes that the gunners were in decline before he arrived at the Emirates Stadium but Arsene Wenger has however refuted these claiming that the North Londoners weren’t in a bad position as his successor said.

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery almost took the gunners into a top four finish last season but they however crumbled in the last few weeks of the season hence finishing in the fifth position on the Premier League table and then later wasted another chance of a UEFA Champions League spot by losing to Chelsea in the UEFA Europa League final. Despite all that, Emery said that he was pleased with their performance in that season and that he stopped the gunners from declining but he however said that he needed more time to rectify the club.

Arsene Wenger was however not happy with the comments by Unai Emery and revealed why he believed that the gunners were not declining under him and urged him to take responsibility instead of pointing fingers at others.

“In 2017 we made 75 points and won the FA Cup so you cannot say that [Arsenal were in decline] and the year before [2016] we finished second in the league. Wenger told Sky Sports News.

“2018 was my last year but it is very difficult to come out on that.”

“Arsenal is a club that is in a very strong position financially. It has good players, after that when you are a manager you have to stand up for what you do and your result and not look around you. That is the only thing you can do.”
