Arsenal have officially announced that they've finally reached an agreement with their players, head coach and coaching staff on a 12.5 percent pay cut.
Arsenal have officially announced that they have reached a voluntary agreement with their head coach Mikel Arteta, players and the coaching staff to take a 12.5% pay cuts in order to help the club in the financial hit that it has taken due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This decision comes after having been in discussions with the players for two weeks.
The Premier League 2019/20 campaign came to an abrupt stop in March when it was confirmed that Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta had tested positive of COVID-19 and there hasn’t been any football played ever since then. All Premier League clubs including Arsenal have taken a financial hit due to the pandemic and the club decided to have discussions with the players on the possibility of taking a pay cut on their annual salary so that the club can continue to pay the casual staff and as well as continuing to work effectively.
A statement on Arsenal’s official website read;
“We are pleased to announce that we have reached a voluntary agreement with our first-team players, head coach and core coaching staff to help support the club at this critical time.”
A lot of credit will have to rightfully go to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and Hector Bellerin as its reported that they were the people who finally managed to convince the players to finally accept the 12.5% pay cut. The statement also said that the club will repay back the wages if certain requirements concerning the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League are met.
