Report: Premier League return date finally set and why Arsenal will be happy with this

The spread of the Coronavirus has affected a lot of things including the Premier League which immediately got suspended after it was confirmed that Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta had tested positive of it. All the players have since then been at their homes due to the lockdown imposed by the government and have just started returning to the training grounds but with strict restrictions.

The UK government held a press conference yesterday to announce the easing of the lockdown and sport was one of the topics that many wanted to hear more about and it was confirmed that the sporting events including the Premier League could start as early as 1st June but without supporters. This comes as a big relief to many who were missing the Premier League because there were many uncertainties as to whether it could be declared null and void but it is however luckily one month away.

Some clubs that are in the relegation battle might not be happy that the season will be restarting but in Arsenal’s case, they will be delighted that the 2019/20 campaign won’t be abandoned because they are now ninth on the Premier League table and will be hoping to make one last push in these last games to reach the European places because not getting either Champions League or Europa League football will hurt the club’s finances.

The season getting finished without the fans will already see the club take a major financial hit since matchday income is one of it’s best sources of revenue and so Arsenal will be hoping to finish the season on a high since it is not financially healthy for a club like them to be out of UEFA Champions League for many years. Arsenal players recently accepted to take a 12.5% pay cut and the club promised that they would recoup that money if they qualified for the Champions League and so they will be looking forward to the return of the Premier League to see if they will manage to get to that target.
