Report: Two reasons why Arteta will probably sell Lucas Torreira in summer

Lucas Torreira joined Arsenal in 2018 but he has however been poor this season and here are two reasons why Arteta could sell him in the summer.

Arsenal completed the signing of Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria for a fee believed to be around £26million and he turned out to be an outstanding player in his first season but he has however struggled to put in similar performances in this year’s campaign. Arteta joined Arsenal at the end of 2019 and has used Torreira moderately and we take a look at why he might sell the Uruguayan international in the summer.

1. TORREIRA’S SALE COULD HELP IN FUNDING PARTEY’S DEAL

Lucas Torreira was very impressive in his first season at the club and the Arsenal fans had already begun saying that he could be the next Patrick Vieira but the change of role under Unai Emery seems to have messed him up as he has really struggled this season. The gunners are currently linked with a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey and the gunners will obviously have a tight budget due to losses caused by Coronavirus and the possibility of no European football, hence relying on player sales to fund transfers.

Arsenal are believed to have paid £26million for Lucas Torreira but his value has increased in these two years and so the gunners could get a fee upwards of £35million and Arteta would want a replacement named none other than Thomas Partey.

2. TORREIRA MIGHT NOT FIT ARTETA’S STYLE

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta wants to once again make the gunners an attacking side and so he will be needing great passers of the ball in all the positions on the pitch and Lucas Torreira is usually used a destroyer in order to stop attacks but he is however sloppy in possession. We’ve already seen how Arteta values players that are great with the ball as that was the reason why Torreira was dropped for Ceballos and Sokratis for Mustafi because the Greek and Uruguayan international are not suitable for clubs that want to constantly have possession.
