Manchester City 3-0 Arsenal: All you need to know

Arsenal was welcomed at the Etihad Stadium by Manchester City today and they have walked away with zero points as the home side put three past them as they have done in the past. Mikel Arteta was hoping to close on the gap on the Premier League top four but it looks he will have to wait for the next game.

Arsenal came into the game with a surprise midfield of Xhaka, Guendouzi and Willock with Mesut Ozil completely not in the starting eleven or on the bench for unknown reasons, the gunners however lost Granit Xhaka to an injury early in the game and he got replaced by Dani Ceballos and the Spanish midfielder seemed to have an impact as he was breaking the press well.

Arsenal then later lost Pablo Mari to an injury and then David Luiz entered into the game in the 24th minute not knowing he was about to have one of the worst performances of his career. Manchester City controlled the game in the first half as expected but seemed toothless throughout until the last moments of the half as David Luiz failed to block a through ball properly hence Sterling getting to it and firing Manchester City into the lead.

Things went from bad to worse for David Luiz in the second half as Riyad Mahrez was able to go through on goal but then got pulled by the Brazilian international hence earning a penalty with the Arsenal defender getting sent off by the referee. Mikel Arteta’s side were then reduced to 10 men and then Manchester City fully controlled the game without any difficulty as the gunners were already poor upfront with 11 men on the pitch.

Manchester City had chance after chance but Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno made the score to remain respectful. Arteta subbed off Guendouzi, Willock and Nketiah to bring in Maitland-Niles, Nelson and Lacazette but they had little to no impact as the game was already done. Manchester City got their third of the day through Foden and the match ended 3-0 with Pep Guardiola beating his student Mikel Arteta.
