Arsenal fans have for long urged for the sale of Shkodran Mustafi but we however take a look at why Mikel Arteta will not easily let the German international leave.
Shkodran Mustafi has been at Arsenal for four years now but he has however been heavily criticized in the last two years due to making constant mistakes in matches. Shkodran Mustafi became a regular starter under Arteta this season despite still making mistakes and the gunners will be hoping that he gets sold but we take a look at why the 38 year old coach might want to keep the German centre back.
1. SHKODRAN MUSTAFI FITS ARTETA’S PHILOSOPHY
Shkodran Mustafi is an error prone centre back but he however can be an outstanding at times when he is on form and one of his main strengths is he is great on the ball which makes managers like Arteta who want to play possession football like him since he helps in the quick transitions from defence to attack.
The only ball playing centre backs at Arsenal are David Luiz and Shkodran Mustafi and so it is no coincidence that Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta would be happy to keep the German international even though he is prone to mistakes. Arteta has already shown that he will be choosing people great on the ball no matter what as seen by him benching Sokratis for Mustafi and Torreira for Ceballos.
2. MUSTAFI IS STILL A GREAT DEFENDER
It’s so incredibly frustrating that Shkodran Mustafi would be considered world-class if it wasn’t for the occasional brainfarts that he usually does because objectively looking at his qualities as a defender, he’s got it all. ( He’s good in the air, great on the ball, good interceptor of the ball and more )
And so with him still being a great defender in many areas, Arteta will definitely believe that he should be the last to be sold this summer.
It will be interesting to see who Mikel Arteta decides to sell on his huge number of centre backs but some transfer report did say that he wanted to get rid of Rob Holding and Sokratis before letting go of Shkodran Mustafi.
