Mikel Arteta reveals what went wrong for Arsenal in their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has explained on what he believes went wrong for the gunners in their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal’s poor start to the new Premier League season continued on Sunday as they lost to their arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a game that they hoped would not only prove to be a turning point in their campaign but to also upset their noisy neighbours who wanted a win to go to the top of the league table. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has now lost in his first two North London derbies and he tried to explain what happened after the game.

The gunners came into this game after an impressive win in the UEFA Europa League and the manager along his players seemed to confident in the pre-match press conferences that they said would get something in this game but they were however stunned as Tottenham Hotspur took an early lead thanks to a brilliant counter attack and a fantastic shot by Son. Arsenal seemed to have been woken up by this goal and then pushed for an equaliser but they were however once again caught on the break as Harry Kane doubled Spurs’ lead.

Arsenal took control of the match in the second half as Tottenham Hotspur let them have the ball but they still did not get that too many of chances but Mikel Arteta has however come out and said that they deserved more from this game, as he explained in his post-match press conference on what went wrong in their 2-0 defeat to Jose Mourinho’s men.

“I think the performance overall shows the character that this team has at the moment, the personality that we showed, the way we’ve played, all the situations that we generated. But as well, who we are at the moment – we concede two shots on target and we lost the game.” Mikel Arteta told Arsenal’s official website.

“I think we had 53 crosses into the box. It’s an incredible number. The situations that we generated were very clear. It was missing that final link, that final touch, that one v one with Auba, that header – I have a lot in my memory. At the end, in the opponents’ box we are not ruthless enough when we had the chances and then we conceded two goals.”
