Mohamed Elneny reveals what makes Mikel Arteta better than Emery ahead of Thursday clash

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has spoken out on what he believes makes Mikel Arteta better than his previous manager Unai Emery.

Arsenal will on Thursday face Villarreal in the UEFA Europa League semi finals and it will surely be an extra special game for the North Londoners as their current boss Mikel Arteta will be facing his predecessor, Unai Emery who got sacked in November, 2019. Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny who played under both managers has spoken out on why Arteta is the better one on the two coaches.

Arsenal appointed Unai Emery as their new boss in May, 2018 after the departure of Arsene Wenger and he had a fairly good start to life as a gunner as they went on a 22 unbeaten run, and then later went to the UEFA Europa League final only to be embarrassed by Chelsea. Things went sour in his second season as the gunners failed to get a Premier League win for weeks hence him being fired and then the club appointed Mikel Arteta.

Mohamed Elneny did not get many chances under Unai Emery in the 2018/19 season and the Spanish coach decided to loan him to Besiktas for the full 2019/20 season. The Egyptian international has however been reintegrated into the Arsenal squad this season by Mikel Arteta and Elneny says that him receiving this chance is something that he did not get under Unai Emery.

“If you are good you will play, if you are not good you will be on the bench, or you will be out of the squad.” Mohamed Elneny told Sky Sports.

“This is what I love from Mikel Arteta because it is fair. If you train good and you train hard and you are ready to play he will give you a chance to play.”

“This is what I missed before with Emery. He wasn’t giving me a chance to play and that’s why I get a chance to go to Turkey and prove myself and I come back and I’m happy about myself now.”
