Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has come out to defend Mikel Arteta from those that have criticized the Spanish boss for last season's performances.
Arsenal had one of their worst campaigns in decades last season and this has led to the birth of criticism of Mikel Arteta and the starting of questions on whether the Spaniard deserves to still be the man to lead the gunners to the new upcoming season. Hector Bellerin has come out to comment on the criticism that Arteta has faced in the last few months.
Arsenal finished in the 8th position on the Premier League table and got knocked out of the Carabao Cup, Emirates FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League which seems to have been the one made many fans and pundits to start continually criticize Mikel Arteta’s coaching.
Hector Bellerin played a good number of matches under Mikel Arteta as he was not only one of his captains but was also his first choice right back when the season begun and the Spaniard has come out to provide support to his boss saying that people have not been able to see the little small details that have changed since the former Manchester City coach arrived at the Emirates Stadium.
“I think, personally, at Arsenal, [emphasis on small details] is something which has changed a lot.” Hector Bellerin told High Performance Podcast.
“The ethics and the way [we] work since Mikel has been the manager of the club have completely changed. These behaviours, our behaviours, have been rewarded by him.”
“And these behaviours, our behaviours have been awarded by them. There’s more emphasis on that behaviour, so the way we run back or the way we create space for a player.”
“Because you know you can move to receive the ball, you can move to get a player away or you can move into space, there’s so many ways you can move for and sometimes a goal is created not by the player that passes the ball or by the player that scores but by the player that actually created the space.”
“And many people, like the fans in the stands or even the pundits sometimes, they won’t see that. But truly that’s what we’ve practised, that’s what the coach has asked, and by the player doing that we’re able to score.”
