Arsenal set to be benefit from new Carabao cup rule change

Arsenal will take on Leeds United tonight in the Carabao cup and have been boosted by a rule change.

Arsenal will be looking to progress to the Carabao cup quarter-finals when they face Leeds United tonight in the competitions fourth round.

There has been an amendment regarding the substitutions rule with the five substitution rule being re-implemented after it was introduced for the semi-final and final last season.

“Following a proposal from 14 of the 16 Clubs remaining in this season’s Carabao Cup, the EFL can confirm Clubs will be permitted to make five substitutions from the nine they nominate for the remainder of the 2021/22 competition.” A statement from EFL reads.

“After consultation between the EFL Board, the Premier League and the two non-signatory Clubs, an amendment has been made to Competition Rule 10.1.

“The amendment comes into effect ahead of the next round of ties which will take place during the week commencing Monday 25 October 2021.

“The change was made after consideration of the proposal which highlighted concerns of a demanding fixture schedule over the coming months.”

As such, the new rule gives Mikel Arteta more options and could hand some of the academy prospects their senior debuts.

Charlie Patino, Salah-Eddine Oulad M’Hand, Kido Taylor-Hart, Omari Hutchinson and Tim Akinola are the academy starlets that are in line for a debut on the senior team.
